Matematisk seminar

The project is a continuation of an earlier project with the same title (project number: 166375/V30). Beside more formal networks, all active mathematicians are members of informal international networks consisting of mathematicians sharing the same re search interest, working in the same field and working on related research problems. In order to learn from each other, initiate research cooperation and actually do research together, mathematicians in such networks need to meet. Such meetings can take p lace either on international conferences /workshops or by more informal invitations of guest researcher/lecturer from one institution to another. In mathematics such meetings are basic conditions for research cooperation and a substantial part of the r esearch. Especially in pure mathematics is a result of such "face to face" meeting between researchers from different research institutions are of great importance. The intention of the project "Matematisk seminar" is to support the contact and stimulat e research cooperation between mathematicians from UiO and foreign mathematicians. The project makes it possible to invite several guest researchers every year for short time periods. These guests cover the main areas of research of our institute and seve ral of them have been involved in long-lasting research projects together with members of the institute. The invitation of these guests is also stimulating for our graduate students, as they get in touch with their possible future research network, and th ey learn how members of the international mathematical community meet and cooperate.
