1st Meeting on Brain Aquaporins

We are planning a meeting with around 25 national and international speakers and 150 participants. All key persons in this field, as Peter Agre (Nobel Prize winner 2003), Samira Saadoun, Olivera Nesic-Taylor and Marios Papadopoulos, have agreed to partici pate (if funding is available). The former dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Bergen, Rolf Kaare Reed is among the participants agreeing to give a presentation. The conference will be announced at the national and Nordic levels and will b e open for all. Scholarships will be announced to cover travel expenses for younger scientists from other university cities. The number of scholarships will of course depend on the financing. No registration fee will be required. As for the theme, the co nference will focus on molecular biological and functional aspects regarding water transport in the brain. Bioinformatics analyses of aquaporins, structure analyses, as well as advanced imaging analyses will be included in the program. Furthermore, high-t hroughput screening for ligands for aquaporin-4 will be presented and discussed in relation to plans of a chemical biology platform in Norway.
