DEMOLOG: DEtailed MOdel for commodity flows, LOGistic costs and mode choice

The project contains 7 work packages: WP1: Regionalisation. In WP1 the model will be improved so that it can also be applied for regional based studies. The WP will explore what adjustments are necessary, in terms of commodity flow matrices, networks and decision logic, and the changes will be implemented. WP2: Terminal cost functions. WP2 will develop and implement enhanced terminal costs (loading, unloading and transfer costs) in the model. The new terminal costs will be a function of terminal type, size and technology of the terminal, cargo handling system, cargo types etc. WP3: Improved methodology for commodity flows. The OD-matrices are based on economic data for production and consumption, combined with advanced gravity models with mode specif ic statistics as restrictions. This WP will develop a method to utilize information from the first commodity flow survey (CFS) in Norway to obtain more concise commodity flows. WP4: Implementation of new matrices. The method from WP6 will be used to esta blish new OD-matrices. The data from the CFS will be complemented with industry statistics, while mode specific statistics will be used for validation. WP5: Environmental effects. In this WP a sub-model for calculation of the environmental effects of the different scenarios will be developed. The logistic model calculates traffic flows at a detailed vehicle level (47 vehicle types), giving the possibility to make detailed calculations of the emissions. WP6: Elasticities. This WP will calculate elasticit ies and cross-elasticities in the model. The results will be compared to empirical calculated elasticities, and used as a basis for further validation of the model. WP7: Compare outcomes with the Trans-Tools model. In this WP a comparison of results fro m the Logistics model and the European model Trans-Tools will be done. In order to learn more about both models, different policy measures will be implemented and the results compared.
