As part of the Master of Science in Business and Economics program with major in Finance at BI Norwegian School of Management I have chosen to participate in the student exchange program at University of Mannheim for several reasons.
First and foremost, I find the German culture very appealing. Over the past few years I have been able to visit many of the cities along the river Rhine, such as Cologne, Koblenz and Mainz, and I have greatly appreciated the experience.
I think it is a clear advantage for Norwegians to improve their knowledge about the German language, as Germany is one of our most important import and export partners. Personally, I speak basic German and understand German at a basic to intermediate level. However I believe that the excha nge semester at Mannheim will be valuable for my German language skills.
Being a student of the highly reputed business department at the University of Mannheim, I expect the focus to be significantly more theoretical than what I am used to at BI Norwegi an School of Management. This will obviously be a challenge. However I believe that participating in the exchange program will provide a great academic opportunity for me.
