Art and sociality: mail art in the context of social art pratices of the 20th century avant-garde

In my doctoral research in History, Critic and Theory of Art at Barcelona University under Profesor Lourdes Cirlot Valenzuela's direction I carry out an in-depth analysis of mail artists' publications and interviews to build a mail art database that serve s to map those artists' network and to understand their social/communicational connections and strategies. The historical approach we propose is aimed at recovering the memory of this sort of art production in order to understand and also spread that arti stic phenomenon. To improve my doctoral research, an in-depth study should be conducted on issues like art communication, sociality and network theories - themes that will be part of a specific chapter of my thesis. Therefore, I will stay in Oslo from Oct ober 1st, 2010 to November 30, 2010 in the Departament of Philosophy, Classics, History of Art and Ideas at the University of Oslo. During that research stay I will have exchanges with Professor Ina Blom on the topic of mail art/communication art in the c ontext of social art pratices of the 20th century avant-garde as well I will make a bibliographic review about this topic under her supervision. From this activities I will write one chapter of my doctoral thesis about art and sociality in which I will an alyse this aspect inside mail art network. Moreover, I also will publish an essay about it in an important Journal in a related area. This result means a significant contribution in the History and Theory of Art area, once there are few studies and conseq uently not much bibliography about the matter. In addition to the mention research activities I will follow the seminars and participate in workshops arranged during my stay.
