Ice sheets are melting and sea level is rising. The expected magnitude of ice sheet retreat is unlike anything humanity has faced in historical time. Geological records of past ice sheet change can be used to inform models of future ice sheet change. T he PI proposes to work with colleagues in Norway (University of Bergen) to generate geological records of past ice sheet retreat in Norway?s classic glacial landscapes. The retreating ice mass in Norway at the close of the last ice age is comparable in m any ways to the planet?s present ice sheets. The resulting reconstructions, to be published in peer-reviewed literature, will inform current predictions of future ice sheet change.
