Fagområder:

In this project, my intention is to follow major developments which led to reconfiguration of the Norwegian foreign policy in the course of the period defined above. Relations between exile political representations of Norway. Czechoslovakia and Poland as three lesser allies of the anti-Axis coalition hosted by Great Britain in London are of principal interest to me. This particular situation meant a breakthrough for mutual communication and understanding of the European small powers mentioned above. In m any respects, they were equal to each other and were to deal with similar problems during and after WWII. The defeat of Germany brought with itself substantial geopolitical changes leading to division of Europe. Thus, all countries in question became an object of Soviet interest. This considerably affected foreign policy of each of them. Thanks to the war-time experience with Polish and Czechoslovak politicians. Norwegian policy-makers were able to make use of perceptions of communisation of East Central Europe and draw significant conclusions while they were looking for the most suitable policy for Norway to adopt within the post-war system of international relations. I would like to examine to what extent this element was important for Norwegian decisi on to be a part of US-led Atlantic integration, inspired by Trygve Lie in 1940. By now, I have gone through a variety of Czechoslovak and, to a lesser extent, Norwegian sources, which indicate rather surprising degree of trilateral communication on princi pal foreign policy issues.
