EWS. Lingua Nordica Lingua Franca?

This project will provide opportunities for scholars from different but related research areas to share ideas and experiences. Nordic scholars who study mutual intelligibility issues among the Nordic languages and scholars who study mutual intelligibilit y issues of different Englishes will be able to share research methodologies and results and explore the possibilities of cross fertilization and a common research agenda. Three workshops will provide fora for these discussions. The first meeting/workshop will explore diachronic and synchronic issues pertaining to the rise and fall of contact languages in the Nordic region and the current status of knowledge in the field. The second workshop will focus on drawing conclusions from the first workshop, iden tify common interests and opportunities for further collaborations. In the third workshop future research agendas will be developed with a view to creating a research network or networks, develop research proposals and identify appropriate sources for fun ding.
