A high-resolution paleoclimate reconstruction from Lake Erlingvatnet, NW Svalbard. RiS ID: 6676

Tildelt: kr 40 999

The goal of this research is to carry out a high-resolution paleoclimate reconstruction from Lake Erlingvatnet in NW Svalbard. This study would form part of my PhD thesis at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Fieldwork and subsequent analysis would be carried out in cooperation with colleagues at the University of Bergen and at Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory. Using new techniques such as organic lipid biomarkers and high resolution biogenic silica, we hope to reconstruct climate variability for the past 10,000 years at Lake Erlingvatnet to better understand Arctic climate change over the Holocene. This project will be carried out in cooperation with the SHIFTS project, RiS ID 5155. The participants for the proposed field campaign in August of 2014 are: 1. Prof. Jostein Bakke (principal investigator) (UiB) 2. Distinguished Prof. Raymond Bradley (PhD supervisor) (UMass) 3. Ass. Prof. William D?Andrea (LDEO) 4. Post Doc Nicholas Balascio (LDEO) (RiS id: 6655) 5. Post Doc Sædís Ólafsdo ttír (UiB) (RiS id: 6665) 6. PhD student Marthe Gjerde (UiB) (RiS id: 6641) 7. PhD student Willem van der Bilt (UiB) (RiS id: 6663) 8. PhD student Greg de Wet (UMass) (RiS id: 6676)
