2nd African Conference on Key Populations in the HIV Epidemic

The "1st African Conference on Key Populations in the HIV Epidemic" was conducted in Dar es Salaam in August 2013 with funding support from GLOBVAC. 150 persons from 22 different countries took part in the conference, which was jointly organised by the Un iversity of Oslo (UoO) and the Muhimbili Universty of Health and Allied Sciences (MUAS), with UNAIDS as a co-organiser. This appication pertains to the continuation of the mentioned work. The "2nd African Conference on Key Populations in the HIV Epidemi c" will be conducted in late 2014 or early 2015 and will focus on research, programming and advocacy pertaining to HIV and MSM, PWID and PWSS in Africa. The conference will consist of (1) plenary sessions, (2) abstract-driven presentations, and (3) panel discussions. There will also be opportunities for participants to organise side events. The conference aims to convene a broad range of actors working on issues related to HIV and the three mentioned key populations in the HIV epidemic in Africa. Preent ations will be selected through a peer review process. An abstract book will be prepared and published online. A team of rapporteurs will be established and their report will also be published. The conference is conducted as part of the ongoing collabo ration between UoO and MUHAS. Additional collaboration will be sought with other relevant actors (such as universities, organisations and agencies nationally, regionally and if possible globally. Much of the grant requested in this application will be u sed to fund schoarships to conference contributors from Africa. Scholarships will be awarded among presentng authors of abstracts selected in the peer review process. Additional support for this conference will be sought from other relevant funding agen cies. While additional funding would allow for a larger event, the conference can also be successfully conducted within the budgetary limits presented here (albeit on a smaller scale).
