Research, development and test of an effective and inexpensive portable mHealth Promotion System

The rapid growth in the elderly population in many countries has highlighted the importance of exercise training to decrease the likelihood of disability and age-associated diseases. There is currently no science based exercise-training regimen broadly av ailable in the field to increase physical fitness and prevent lifestyle-related diseases in middle-aged and older people. Dignio AS and our European partners DD2 (Dansk Center for Strategisk Forskning i Type 2 Diabetes) and Multiquark ApS have therefore c ome together to realise an innovative project that will research, develop and test an effective and inexpensive portable mHealth Promotion System to help tackle the growing societal challenge of lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes 2. The project is targeting the mobile healthcare services market, which is expected to reach ?19 billion worldwide as smartphone apps enable the mHealth industry to monetize these services. The market is growing rapidly with compound annual growth rates of more than 61 % (research2guidance, 2013). The technology and the product has a large market potential and we expect it to reach the market within 2 years after project completion. For the project to be realised, we will overcome a number of scientific and technical b arriers, which will go beyond current state-of-the art: - R&D of an advanced IWT algorithm providing optimised and automated training plans to middle-aged and older people using a mixture of data such as historical data and ?expert coach knowledge? makin g expert coach knowledge available continuously to all patients at a low cost. - Development of gamification and social media elements to improve training adherence in patient target group. - Development of e-Health platform enabling data collection, an alysis, interaction and presentation to the relevant patient stakeholders including the patient him/herself. - Large-scale testing and evidence studies on patient target group.
