Identification, detection and risk factors of Ectoparasites related to Sea lice and Amoebic gill diseases (AGD)- biosecurity measures

Tildelt: kr 0,30 mill.

With this project establishment support it is planned to build an international consortium for an application that is planned to be submitted to HAV21 or related programs next year. In this application, the focus will be on both diseases associated to se a lice and Ameoba Gill Disease (AGD). The first one, is currently one of the major problem in Norway, the second one (AGD) has so far appeared through outbreaks in Europe, including Norway, and is currently causing majors losses in Tasmania in Australia a nd more recently in Chile, Canda, Ireland and Scotland. So it may in the future lead to large losses in the Norwegian salmon farming industry. The factors causing this disease are largely unknown. The main goal of the project is to investigate possible c ommon biosecurity measures to prevent the spreading of the both diseases (sea lice and AGD) in Norway. The associated partners are coming mainly from countries where these diseases cause a lot of damages: Sea lice in Ireland, Scotland, Canada and AGD (Am oeba Gill Disease) in Australia, Ireland, Scotland, Canada. The partner in Japan is chosen for specific measurement technics related to these diseases. The delivery will be: at this end of this project a report which will be written on the detailed implem entation of the project (detailed work packages, implementation, cost). Three Work packages have been identified 1)Oceanic measurements: To detect at large scale, potential outbreak of these diseases 2)Live monitoring at farm scale: To develop standard methods for live monitoring of both diseases. 3)Biosecurity measures : To investigate common measures for both diseases This establishment support project will bring together different expertise in these fields : SeaLice, AGD, Infestation, Immunology, O ceanography, Sensors, Flow Hydrodynamic. Invitation letters are attached to this application.
