Communicating with stakeholders about childhood vaccination: an international workshop on the COMMVAC taxonomy

Tildelt: kr 0,30 mill.

Background Improving communication between health services and service users is key to reducing vaccine hesitancy and improving childhood vaccination uptake worldwide. In the Research Council of Norway (RCN) funded COMMVAC 1 project, we developed a classi fication system, or taxonomy, that organises communication strategies for childhood vaccination, based on the intended purpose of the communication. In the RCN-funded COMMVAC 2 project, we are studying childhood vaccination communication strategies in fou r low- and middle-income country (LMIC) settings: Cameroon, Mozambique and two states in Nigeria. The COMMVAC taxonomy is being used to organise these data. These data provide a starting point for developing a comparative, cross-country synthesis of child hood vaccination communication strategies. We propose to hold a three day workshop to advance the development of this synthesis and to explore how it can inform policy making for vaccination communication. Workshop objective To improve the use of vaccin ation evidence in policy making by developing a comparative, cross-country synthesis of childhood vaccination communication strategies in low and middle income countries Activities - Preparatory work to complete the four country-level taxonomies and draf t the cross-country synthesis - Workshop with researchers and country stakeholders - Draft a paper describing the synthesis and its uses, and conduct dissemination activities - User test the interactive online tool Outputs - A comparative, cross-country synthesis of communication strategies for childhood vaccination - Guidance on how the synthesis and COMMVAC taxonomy can be used by stakeholders (policy makers, health care providers, researchers) - A paper in a peer reviewed journal Outcomes - Improved understanding of strategies used for childhood vaccination communication in LMICs - Methods for comparing vaccination strategies used across different settings - Increased north-south institutional collaboration
