NORUSVA: Norwegian - Russian collaboration in Svalbard on freshwater ecology research - strengthening and planning workshop

Målet med prosjektet NORUSVA er å følge opp, videreutvikle og forsterke det eksisterende samarbeidet mellom norske og russiske forskere som ble etablert gjennom prosjektet FREMONEC. Dette vil skje gjennom en workshop som skal arrangeres I Moskva, Russland. Foruten norske og russiske forskere vil også forskere fra andre land bli invitert. Vi vil besøke Moscow State University og få en innføring i hvilke metoder og protokoller som blir brukt av våre russiske kollegaer. Dette er viktig da materialet som skal innsamles på Svalbard vil bli prosessert her. Hovedmålet for møtet er å legge planer for videre samarbeide som blant annet vil inkludere feltarbeid på Svalbard og i arktiske deler av Russland, samt å avklare spørsmål rundt rettigheter til data, publisering osv. Resultatene fra møtet vil bli presentert I en Workshop-rapport.

In order to develop and strengthen the recently established cooperation on freshwater ecology research between the Norwegian and Russian researchers in Svalbard, there will be event - workshop organized. The workshop will take place in Moscow, Russia in April, 2015. Participants from Norwegian, Russian and other countries institutions will attend this event. Workshop will focus on improving recently established cooperation in arctic science in Svalbard within the framework of the existing FREMONEC project, same as on developing the research network and building platform for future collaboration in Svalbard and Arctic in general. All participants are represented by institutions with considerable scientific history and competence. The workshop will be implemented through presentations, discussions and agreements in order to represent state of knowledge and investigations done already. Furthermore, the workshop will provide a meeting place for the involved partners to present what kind of expertise and facilities they can provide, what direction their interests go when it comes to future collaboration, what possibilities there are for join applications to increase possibilities for funding. In addition we will visit the research facilities of Russian collaboration partners in order to discuss applied methods and protocols used. The outcomes will include a workshop report and a plan of action with specific and concrete coordination and network development activities.
