Challanges of Digital Pedagogies: Lecture, Workshop, and Seminar with Dr. Kari Kraus

Tildelt: kr 58 000

This is an application for funds to bring Dr. Kari Kraus for a series of events at NTNU: a keynote talk during the Futurescapes Symposium accompanying the Meta.Morf. Biennale in Trondheim, a digital pedagogies workshop, and a separate seminar on teaching, technology, and gender in March, 2016. Dr. Kraus is a renowned American researcher and a pedagogical practices innovator. Her research focuses on digital pedagogy, new media and the digital humanities, game studies and transmedia storytelling, and speculative design. Her diverse projects include preserving virtual worlds, Alternate Reality Games (ARGs), storytelling in the service of education and design, and Exploring Invisible Traces in Historic Recordings. In 2015, she entered into a Space Act Agreement with NASA! Need for events: There is a tremendous need for innovative digital pedagogy at NTNU, and Dr. Kraus' visit will draw on the unique strengths of the diverse NTNU resources, including information technology, library services, and science and technology research, but will also strengthen and develop new pedagogical collaborations between NTNU's diverse campuses in Trondheim, and in Gjøvik and Ålesund (our new, post-merger partners). NTNU is a technological university uniquely positioned to actively support innovative digital pedagogies, but unlike other Norwegian institutions, e.g. the University in Oslo, it has yet to support the kinds of innovative pedagogical practices that have transformed educational research and teaching at Tier-1 universities, such as MIT, Stanford, and George Mason in the United States. It has also been slow to close the gender disparity and to bridge the divide between the humanities and technology campuses. Finally, a large portion of NTNU's student population is enrolled in teacher training programs. Bringing Dr. Kraus to the NTNU community will also supplement their pedagogical training and offer them models of innovative digital pedagogies to follow.
