Through the recently completed Analysis of Civil Security Systems in Europe (ANVIL) EU Security project which was coordinated by Research Management, we have developed a promising and growing network of first responder organizations in Europe, as well as academic/research partners knowledgeable in this area. ANVIL (www.anvil-project.net ) was a 24 month FP7 security project that was focused on looking at the similarities and differences in civil security systems in 22 different European countries.
A primary ambition of this new H2020 project is to get a synoptic view of the state-of-the art in Europe regarding the different emerging technologies that can be relevant for an integrated situational awareness platform, covering both the complexities in monitoring and responding to the wide assortment of relevant societal hazards, as well as the ability to communicate and transfer information across a range of international borders, languages, and cultures in the event of wide area security incidents. Then we will use this information as a basis for a roadmap for identifying problems, suggesting improvements and achieving increased cooperation and standardization going forward. The PES project tasks will consist in identifying suitable partners, as well as defining project tasks and writing and submitting the proposal within the deadline.
