Demonstrate CMR superior drilling performance and value case (cost reduction by 30-50%)

through several steps with the following last phase: Construction, assembling and commissioning of the CMR rig with all components at Ullrigg Drilling and Well Center. CMR project has now reached a stage where drilling an advanced onshore well is needed to take the project further for ensuring efficient introduction of this step change technology offshore on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. WDP therefore presents a proposal for a CMR joint industry project (JIP) where an advanced well will be drilled to prove the great potential of CMR technology. Drilling will be conducted at the International Research Institute of Stavanger (IRIS) location called Ullrigg Drilling and Well Center. The location is selected to get efficient access to available infrastructure and competance. All data from drilling phase will be analyzed and compared with the models and simulations done in Planning and Modeling phase. This will prove the cost reduction potential for CMR technology. Results and values will be documented and published when appropriate. This phase will also make recommendations for how to implement CMR technology in an efficient way offshore to achieve reduced offshore drilling and field development cost. This pilot will replace an expensive offshore pilot and save time and resources without compromising the value and relevance of the pilot.

The main outcome of the project is to be one step further commercialization of the CMR technology. To go from prototype to a field proven product is challenging in the petroleum industry. Demonstration and testing that have been conducted and are documented, are of great help in discussions with potential customers for the technology. Projects like this are also crucial for obtaining experience necessary for further development of the technology.
