LIVELEARNING

The overall objective of the envisaged project is to research, develop and demonstrate a novel e-learning service for private and public universities. Students and lecturers can connect in real-time through a two-way videoconference service on the cloud for lectures, interactive tutorials and examinations. Learning content will be recorded and archived in an e-library and can be accessed by any subscriber. Universities can monetise their learning content through their best lecturers and students can deepen and broaden their education through accessing additional material. The use of dedicated eLearning software, will offer significant improvements in particularly in rural areas, where schools can access teachers with specialist skills (enabling a wider and more complete range of courses even in smaller schools and remote areas). In addition, in-service education of teachers is putting a strain on the educational resources. Training is taking up more and more time for teachers, having to circulate back to universities to get additional training/courses, to keep up with the newest technologies and developments. Besides time there is also a monetary cost associated with the training. The total cost for in-service training of teachers in Norway alone is estimated at 8bn NOK. The aim of the project will be to adapt the Easymeeting platform to the educational sector, through the development of novel tailored solutions in close collaboration with all stakeholders in the educational system. Specific developments include: - Optimising our current hardware platform to the layout of a classroom and lecture hall. - Develop the industrial design for the hardware, enabling low cost and mass production. - Develop software modules for content management. - Software synchronisation of pushed content to students (ensuring that e.g. a video is displayed in the highest resolution possible for each student (without buffering, lag, chopping).
