Malignant Exploitation of Obese Environments

The original proposal was suggesting a two-pronged systemic cancer biology approach to identify the molecular underpinnings of obesity-regulated cancer progression. While not often discussed in connection to obesity, cancer and cancer development are highly linked to obesity. Based on numerous large-scale epidimyological investigations, it is believed that 15-20% of cancer-related deaths can be traced back to obesity. While this epidimyological connection is becoming clear, our mechanistic knowledge of the cellular adaptation behind this connection is still unknown.
