T2S Transformation to a sustainable food system

Tildelt: kr 59 999

The core transformative ideas of the proposed project is that, in order the meet the sustainability and low-GHG emission challenges, the food system needs to (1) undergo rapid and large-scale changes, which (2) must involve iterative changes in both the production and consumption parts of the food system. The proposed project wants to investigate potential barriers for the transformation to a sustainable and climate friendly food system caused by variations in how key stakeholders involved in policy making and the food value chain view food sustainability, and to which degree they have a holistic perspective integrating the producer and the consumer challenge. The project further wants to look for relevant lessons learned from transitions in other sectors and from small scale food sustainability initiatives. The project brings together partners from Norway, Netherlands, Brazil and Sweden and will do a transnational comparative study of the food value chain in Norway, Netherlands and Brasil. The three countries represent a globally relevant variation in production system with different sustainability challenges, including related to green-house gas emissions, and are linked through trading of food and feed products. Throughout its lifetime, the project will involve stakeholders along the food system value chain and between local, regional and national level to ensure relevance, dialog and dissemination of project findings.
