Network seminar on Terrestrial vegetation ecological climatology (ClimEcol-II)

Tildelt: kr 59 999

There are several research communities in Norway working on issues that are relevant to interactions between terrestrial vegetation ecosystems and the climate system, but research and teaching in this field is somewhat scattered and fragmented. In November 2016, based on funding to ?Support for Events? from KLIMAFORSK, we arranged a network seminar on terrestrial vegetation ecological climatology (ClimEcol). We brought together researchers from a variety of disciplines in this field, to foster interdisciplinary cooperation among Norwegian actors. The main objective in the 2016 seminar was to gather important actors in Norway within terrestrial vegetation ecological climatology as a basis for planning further cooperation. The 2016 seminar gathered 45 participants from all institutes in Norway within the field, namely UiO Bio&Geosciences, UiB Bio&Geosciences, NMBU, NTNU, UiT, NINA, CICERO, MET, NVE, NIVA, UNI Research, NIBIO, and NORUT. The seminar was very well received by the participants. There was unanimous feedback that it was very useful to meet other national researchers in related fields. The participants recommended that the seminar should be held annually in the next years. Thus, we considered the seminar a great success, as we clearly succeeded to gather relevant actors in Norway within terrestrial vegetation ecological climatology as a basis for planning further cooperation. We are now applying for support to arrange a follow-up seminar in November 2017 to consolidate and further develop collaboration on terrestrial vegetation ecological climatology. Once again, it will be organized by University of Oslo researchers in the Department of Geosciences and the Natural History Museum, which are well integrated in the focus area ?Land Atmosphere Interactions in Cold Environments? (LATICE, supported by the MN Faculty, UiO).
