TRAFFICPRINTER FTI will prototype, pilot and commercialise our cost-effective, automated and smart truck-mounted printing system for the wider application of symbols and transverse lines on live carriageways and other open public spaces. TRAFFICPRINTER will make EUs roads safer with minimal disruption to road users. The aim is to deliver the first fully automatic, single-operator road symbol printer, the only technology that completes an average road symbol in < 2 minutes. Each unit on the market will save EUR 3.9m in averted road accident costs and 227t CO2 (eq) in lower congestion-related traffic emissions. The project targets the Fast Track to Innovation call, which is intended to accelerate innovative ideas and products from prototype stage to a rapid market launch through multidisciplinary industrial partnerships. The TRAFFICPRINTER partners will technically mature a prototype road scanner and symbol printer vehicle and develop and set in place a detailed business plan that will launch TRAFFICPRINTER onto global markets no later than six months after the end of the FTI project (Q1 or Q2 of 2022). The two technical partners (Trysil Maskin and Tieto-Oskari) operate in competitive high value sectors. TRAFFICPRINTER, and test partners SVEVIA and WJ NORTH will benefit from major cost savings in their road patrol and maintenance operations, and the entire project will underpin multidisciplinary innovation collaboration between mechanical engineering, image scanning and software for image interpretation, industrial integration and manufacturing. The aim of the envisaged project is to move our current prototype technology to full commercialisation onto the global markets. TRAFFICPRINTER has a major market potential compared to current state-of-the-art technology. As the envisaged FTI project builds upon a validated prototype vehicle and road scanning system, the majority of our efforts will be focused on integration, piloting and commercialisation activities.
