SALMINO - Regaining health through Salmon discards

Zymtech Production AS (Norway) is a young and fast growing company backed up with 20+ years of R&D. Zymtech has developed a naturalprocess (2 patent families) to transform salmon off-cuts (“waste”) into a nutritional supplement (AMIZATE®) that incorporates all of the amino acids, in balanced proportions, that actually match those found in human body proteins. As a result, Amizate provides a source of free form amino acids, short chain peptides and nutrients that are absorbed by the human body 50% faster than any other protein supplement. Amizate has been clinically tested and proven to play a crucial role in patients recovering from illness and surgery, malnutrition, fostering healthy ageing and improving performance in sports practitioners. Amizate responds to two pressing needs: reducing food waste and enhancing health through nutrition. 800,000 tons of fish off-cuts are discarded annually in Norway and 20 million tons worldwide. 75% of this valuable “waste” is currently used for animal feed, the remaining fraction is discarded. Our process utilizes these off-cuts directly for human nutrition. Zymtech patented method, utilizes only the natural enzymes of salmon to extract unique marine ingredients from the waste streams of Atlantic salmon production. Malnutrition is widespread within patients with serious conditions (most notably cancer patients). Several studies point out that 30% of patients on admission at hospitals are at risk of malnutrition. Fish has the closest aminoacid profile to that of human bodies. Amizate provides the building blocks the patient needs to build strength in the same way that nature does in healthy bodies. Together with a shift towards prevention rather than treatment, and the driving force of healthy lifestyles, the market for protein hydrolistes is growing and will reach €5.1 billion revenues by 2024. The goal of the SALMINO project is to bring Amizate to a state of serial production and commercialization internationally.
