Sknow - digital avalanche safety - rethink the off-piste and backcountry skiing experience

THINK OUTSIDE is a pioneer in digital avalanche safety. We have created a disruptive radar sensor technology that will move avalanche risk assessment via digital snow monitoring into the mainstream. SKNOW is a disruptive snow monitoring system that aims to reduce the amount of avalanche accidents and deaths, while improving knowledge and sharing about the conditions of the snowpack. SKNOW is a ski mounted hardware device and a web / app-based platform. The device enables real-time snow profile tracking and evaluation of avalanche risk via a radar in the device and an antenna embedded in the ski. The platform uses the device’s data to offer a complete solution for trip planning, tracking and risk assessment. Overall H2020Ph2 objective: The overall objective of the innovation project is to commercialize our novel avalanche safety product SKNOW. The target outcome of the project is to mature the technology to TRL9 and develop a commercialization plan that will lead to rapid market adoption. A successful implementation of the planned activities will enable SKNOW to market launch in Q12022. To achieve our objectives and reach commercialization, we will carry out the project stages presented below: Final development and prototyping (WP1 & WP2); current prototype design is fully integrated on skis (antenna, hardware sensor). We aim to move all parts out the ski to enable better solution for customers. This requires more work on antenna to enable good energy and radar directivity through different ski materials, new innovative connector design, new innovative mechanical attachment design. Performance validation (WP3) Advance SKNOW technology to market-readiness level (TRL9) by piloting the TRL8 prototypes in real-life conditions together with expert guides and backcountry skiers of various skill levels.
