Project Proposal H2020 IA BluePhoenix

The BluePhoenix consortium aims to address the scope and expected impacts from the H2020 Innovation Action call CE-FNR-09-2020 "Pilot action for the removal of marine plastics and litter". The call specifically requests for demonstration of marine litter cleaning technologies (wireless devices), and an impact assessment, as well as contributing to sustainable managenemt. The consortium has been set up with a wide range of partners with different expertise, to address these points. The current WP structure exists of: (1) technology development, (2) cleaning demonstrations, (3) impact assessment, (4) laying foundations for upscaling, (5) socio-economic and policy analysis. Maritime Robotics (MR) is leading the first work package, concerned with technology development. The biggest concerns here are to deliver the technologies within 6-11 months, while each needs to be at least TRL6 (tech demonstrated in relevant environment). For MR specifically, we will be developing a marine litter collection payload for the Otter USV, which will have to be designed to effectively collect litter, while not increasing drag to a point where the vessel becomes unmaneuvrable.
