This project will contribute to NIFUs participation in the consortium that prepares an application to Horizon 2020 - SwafS-19-2020 “Taking stock and re-examining the role of science communication”. The call has identified a number of specific challenges with science communication, including new challenges related to digitalisation, new actors, changing role for science journalists. The call identified two developments that have challenged quality and reliability: reduced resources in journalism and new platforms for communication.
The planned project will address these challenges directly by both conducting a thorough conceptual and empirical study, and also engaging with relevant stakeholders who work with science communication in various roles. The project explores what quality and effectiveness in science communication mean, develops a new approach to monitoring scholarly communication activities in the digital realm and suggests good practices and policy recommendations.
The project is carried out by a multidisciplinary team of researchers, and also includes contributions from practitioners.
