SeMPER-Arctic-prosjektet (Sense making, place attachement, and extended networks as sources of resilience in the Arctic) har som mål å samle lokale historier om endringer, kriser og sjokk i tre arktiske lokalsamfunn i Grønland og Russland, og tverrfaglig analysere hvordan disse fortellingene inkluderer forestillinger om motstandskraft. Arbeidspakke 2 (WP2), Refleksivitet i fortellingsbasert vitenskap om motstandskraft, ledes av Anne Bremer og fokuserer på å fostre refleksivitet innad i konsortiet, i tråd med de to oppgavene i WP2: 2.1 og 2.2. For 2022 har vi følgende oppdateringer: I tråd med oppgave 2.1. i WP2 har Oksana Singh ledet en serie av 16 intervjuer av nøkkelinformanter i feltet (arktisk) narrativ forskning. Hun har også gjennomført en litteraturgjennomgang av nøkkelartikler om hvordan å gjennomføre narrativ forskning og utforske hvordan lokale fortellinger er representerte i faglitteratur. Oksana og Anne har samarbeidet tett om retningslinjene for intervjuene og for å sikre seg at WP-oppgavene blir løst på en sammenhengende måte. Videre samarbeid har også blitt gjennomført med Natalia Doloisio, medlem av arbeidspakke 5 (WP5), for å knytte sammen refleksivitet og motstandskraft. Med tanke på oppgave 2.2.har Anne Bremer, basert på flere refleksive økter med medlemmene av konsortiet, samlet inn åtte nøkkelpunkter som oppsummerer hva det vil si å gjennomføre narrativ forskning på en ansvarlig og omsorgsfull måte. Disse punktene, som vi kommer til å utdype i den fullstendige rapporten for arbeidspakke 2, inkluderer interkulturell kompetanse, respekt, nysgjerrighet, empati og dyp lytting, langsom vitenskap og det å samkjøre ens egne verdier og forskningsmål. I tillegg arrangerte medlemmene av WP2 et heldagsmøte for konsortiet med fokus på refleksivitet og synergier innad i SeMPER-Arctic. Formålet med møtet var å fortsette å utforske dynamikkene mellom refleksiv vitenskap og (forskeres og lokalsamfunns) motstandskraft. Dette kommer også til å være temaet for vårt kommende tredagers konsortiummøte 6.-9. desember 2022.

Rooting its work in the Arctic, with and for Arctic communities, the SeMPER-Arctic project consortium will be collecting local stories of changes, shocks, upheavals and their aftermaths. The SeMPER-Arctic team members will adopt these narratives as local, and localized, anchoring devices for resilience analysis. Members of three Arctic communities have been involved in the preparation of SeMPER-Arctic and the consortium has committed to work with and for these communities. Their stories of individual and collective ability to fare through shocks, threat, unusually fast changes, will constitute SeMPER-Arctic central corpus. Two broad categories of narratives that are external to communities have been identified as priority area of enquiry : environmental science and public policy and regional development. The consortium will analyse how these narratives interact with local narrative of resilience. This will allow for the assessment of their impacts. The interdisciplinary framework of resilience interpretations will be used to examine the resilience narratives in the light of the dimension that are salient for the members of arctic communities. The consortium will be in a position to take stock of the lessons learned in its three pilot implementation sites. It will have developed a narrative centred, locally rooted, place-based understanding of resilience within arctic communities. This understanding is key for developing tools and strategies to increasing community resilience in other communities. These results will call for sharing the lessons learned with regional planners and policy-makers. The consortium will thus be contributing to the knowledge base on global environmental change through respectful, non-prejudiced, enquiry of what it means to be a resilient arctic community in the 21st century. The results of this analysis will be translated into options for actions, at the local, regional, national and circumpolar levels.
