Beyonder is developing energy storage devices for industrial applications which require higher power and high cycle life than what commercially available lithium-ion batteries (LiB) can supply. Beyonder has developed a novel, patented pre-lithiation processes that increase the energy and power density of the cell. Conventional LiB have about 3-6000 cycles, while Beyonder is targeting >50 000 cycles for its next generation battery cells. A great challenge with cycle life/battery lifetime is that it takes long time to measure and demonstrate, several years for the high cycle life Beyonder is targeting for its next generation battery cells. The goal of the project is to develop a method how to predict cycle life and other performance trait of Beyonder’s battery cell that is not possible to measure within reasonable time at present. If successful, the project will generate a model that is verified with lab data that can be used for predicting performance characteristics that is currently not available. To be able to predict cycle life for future generation battery cells is crucial for demonstrating the benefit and unique features of Beyonder’s products compare to comparable commercial battery cell solutions.
