The emissions froml hydrogen production represent 2.5% of the total global CO2 pollution. To combat these emissions and to reduce reliance on Russian natural gas, the RePowerEU plan set a target of 10M t of domestic green hydrogen production by 2030 making a large step towards achieving European energy independence and sustainability. The average size of green hydrogen projects is now growing quickly. Plants up to 1 GW are expected over the coming decade, but electrolysers are still too expensive and for the green hydrogen economy to take off, CAPEX (electrolysers) and OPEX (electricity and maintenance) of hydrogen production have to come down.
Hystar’s patented solution enables the reduction of membrane thickness by up to 90%. This leads to the significant
reduction in cell resistance which enables higher current densities. It also lowers the energy consumption across all
current densities. Hystar's technology is already capable of delivering products with energy consumption of less than 50 kWh/kg H2. This project will develop a product that enables the use of Hystars technology in large scale hydrogen manufacturing facilities in the range of 100 MW and above with a significant reduction in cost and ease of integration and installation with high safety.
