Many of the +1 billion people with chronic cardiovascular and respiratory diseases require continuous & non-invasive monitoring to avoid complications stemming from hypoperfusion (low blood flow) or hypoventilation. Existing devices monitor heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation, but these may remain constant, e.g. during hypoperfusion in sepsis or hypoventilation in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. In contrast, systemic pCO2 is a reliable early-indicator of hypoperfusion and hypoventilation. CriticAlert is the world’s first nasal micro-biosensor that measures sensor pCO2 accurately, comfortably, non-invasively and continuously. In preclinical tests, CriticAlert matches the accuracy of the current standard of care (arterial blood gas analysis). EIC support is essential for us to complete clinical trials, scale-up production and enter a €38 billion market. CriticAlert will improve +800k patients’ lives, generate €92 million net profits and create 151 jobs by 2031.
