Strategic University Programme in Light Metals Technology

A Strategic University Program in Light Metals Materials Technology is proposed, based on decades of documented expertise on all aspects of the field, with its core at the Department of Materials Technology and Eleetroehemistry (IME), NTNU, drawn from sev eral departments of a leading institution of research in Norway, and localised to the Gløshaugen Campus of NTNU in Trondheim. The vision for activity in The Program shall be to meet the future demand for know-how in developing and characterising the properties a new generation of materials based on recycled metal, which is expected to be the basic raw material in the future for an ecological and sustained production of light-metal alloy components with special focus on the growing automotive market and, at the same time maintaining the outstanding expertise available in the area of primary production. A Strategic University Program is deemed essential to strengthen the multidisciplinary research required for the purpose, training a new generation of scientists and engineers to meet the future challenges and thereby maintaining the internationally leading position of this group.
