The project aims at building bioinformatics tools for identification, exploration and development of macromolecules of industrial and biotechnological importance. this will be achieved by developing methods and algorithms for identification of structural descriptors for a number of protein functional and biophysical properties. A corresponding structural descriptor database will be established form extensive comparative studies at DNA, amino acid sequence and 3D structural levels. Furthermore, a Jython based visualisation tool ENVISION Viewer, will be further developed for use on large-scale sequences, phylogenetic and 3D structural data. This tool will use the structural descriptor database for identification and analysis of unique biomolecules that are candidates for further exploration and possible commercialisation. The project is a continuation of the Norwegian Research Council founded project 144302/213 (2000-2003).
