SmartPipe pre-project

SmartPipe was granted financial support from the NRC for project start in 2005. However, the project responsible pulled out and the project was terminated in March. In a pre-project in 2005 we will make preparations for a new project application with the objectives and goals listed above. The delivery from the main project will have to be defined more explicitly, in order to commit the offshore supplier industry. Identification of quick-winns, i.e. new technology that can be put on the marked before the ultimate SmartPipe is developed, will be an advantage, as short term pay-off is important to most the supplier industry. Cost limits for the SmartPipe can be estimated from construction, manitenance and operational costs for traditional pipelines. Thoug h cost savings is not the principal goal with the SmartPipe, but rather safe operation, there is a limit for how much the market is willing to pay.
