Hydrogen production by Sorbent Enhanced Reforming

Tildelt: kr 10,2 mill.

The aim of the present project is to demonstrate hydrogen production by sorbent enhanced reforming by building a continuous automated lab scale process. Key elements in the process will be to find the best reactor setup for the process, to find the most o ptimal sorbent material/catalyst combination, to analyse these materials under prolonged cycling between reforming and regeneration conditions, and to design and construct the demonstration unit. The experimental work will be followed up with kinetic and reactor modelling, process simulation as well as cost estimation compared to conventional process schemes. The project will build partly on the work carried out in Task A of the ?Power Generation with CO2 capture? SIP (NFR project 143725/210), and partly on the project ?Novel Solid CO2 Absorbents and its Applications at High Temperatures and High Pressures? (NFR project 164454), and will be linked directly to the ongoing internal strategic SINTEF project ?CO2 handling ? demo and positioning?. The research project is a co-operation between NTNU, UiO and SINTEF, involving researchers within catalysis, solid state chemistry, chemical engineering, and modelling. The project will couple three previously competing groups and thus make a national stronghold with in the field.
