Risk analysis methodology and CFD tools are widely used in the industry for predicting accidental loads and designing safe plants, as well as in transport on road, rail, in the air and at sea. Using similar methods for the safe introduction of hydrogen as an energy carrier would be a natural choice. Our approach will be to carry out experiments to improve the worlds understanding of hydrogen explosion phenomena, further to utilise the experimental results for improving CFD based risk analysis methodology. This will further enable us to assist hydrogen stakeholders to make the right decisions for the safe introduction of hydrogen as an energy carrier. Base on analyses of experimental proram from 2005-2007 and new test facilities (2007) three series of expe riments are planned for 2008-10. We are planning to invite a partner from the energy supplying industry to take part in the project in 2009. Modelling of the tests in FLACS, CFX and KFX are done for improving the planning of the tests, for testing the sof tware's ability to reproduce the test results and for enabling the improvement of the software tools. The project will be an integrated part of the IEA HIA Task 19 Hydrogen Safety as part of Norway's contribution to Task 19. In addition to this project, N orway is leading Subtask A1 (DNV)and Subtask A3 (GexCon) under Task 19. This will give us exellent opportunities both for receiving impulses and results, and for meeting contacts from other parts of the world and for dissemination and spreading of our res ults. The results from the project will be published at international conferences and in scientific journals. The results will also be utilised for safety related work in other projects where the partners are involved such as HyNor. Dissemination will als o take place through EU projects where the partners are involved such as HySafe
