pre-proejct: 3D ray-based seismic imaging in complex geologies

Ray-based methods are often seen as not accurate enough for the imaging of complex geology. However, proper implementations can mitigate the inherent limits of those methods. Velocity model estimation and imaging are concerned. Both rely on an optimized and accurate seismic migration code. Both parts are still challenging today and require improvements and research work. The project will involve a Ph.D. thesis and international cooperations. In this pre-project, we will find academic and industrial par tners. According to the possible theoretical inputs and interests of all the parties, choices will be made and a project will be defined. In particular, it will be decied to focus rather on the velocity estimation part or on the imaging part. The complexi ty level being able to be dealt with will be as well decided.
