Buliding consortium on 'Optimisation of energy utilization in off-shore platform'

Tildelt: kr 0,20 mill.

Till now, there is not much focus on efficient use of energy (electricity production, minimize waste heat, reduce emissions to atmosphere etc.) on oil platforms. It is possible to optimize the energy usage in different ways; o Efficient electric p roduction. Here, the main focus would be on gas turbines; 1. Optimizing the gas turbine operation 2. Using advanced instrumentation in addition to indirect measurements using models 3. Using improved system & control arch itecture and advanced control algorithms o Efficient waste heat recovery 1. The flue gases from different units have considerable heat energy, which could be better utilized. 2. Transfer of applied research and knowledge gaine d from the process industry to the oil and gas industry. The preproject primary goal is to build a consortium involving relevant partners with the right competence to contribute in the area of optimized energy usage on oil platforms. The consortium will contain the following partners; Norwegian research institutes (Teknova and IRIS), an international university (DTU, Denmark) and an industrial partner, AS NORSKE SHELL. The participation of DTU and the industrial partner will be confirmed. Furthermore, the consortium will work together to develop a research plan for a major project according to the PETROMAKS call 'Raising energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions'.
