Integrated reflection in the maritime industry - New learning tools and methods in shipping

Tilbakemeldinger fra ansatte om bord tyder på at mye av opplæringen de har gjennomgått i bransjen gjennom årene er for løsrevet fra daglige arbeidsoperasjoner om bord. Dette tyder med andre ord på at potensialet for et bedre utbytte av slik opplæring hos de seilende, er stort. Dette kan blant annet skje ved at en anlegger en mer helhetlig eller holistisk tilnærming til opplæringen og arbeidet om bord, pluss å legge til rette for mer bruk av selve fartøyet i forbindelse med opptreningen om bord. Prosjektet tar sikte på å fremme mer refleksjon blant de seilende og ønsker å sette søkelyset på: * En ny type elektronisk læringstøtte som fremmer utviklingen av en helhetlig forståelse av skipets drift og mannskaper arbeide praksis. * Intensjonen er at læringsarbeidet skal integreres i det daglige arbeidet om bord, ved hjelp av selve skipet og mannskap som en dynamisk læringsarena * Refleksjonsgrupper . Diskusjoner, dialoger og kollektiv refleksjon er generelt effektive læringsaktiviteter .

Feedback from the seafarers shows that they experience the maritime training elements as decoupled from daily work on-board and therefore difficult to transfer to own operational practice. This indicates that it is a significant potential for improving competence development for the ship crew by 1) emphasising a holistic approach to ship operations and work-practices and 2) by facilitating for learning-by doing and focusing on how the training element can support learning in work on-board. The project will focus on these two aspects in the development of a new learning and training concept named Integrated Reflection in the maritime industry. We think that it it significant to focus upon: * A new type of electronic learning supporting development of a holistic understanding of ship operations and the crews work practice. This will aim to connect the content of several elements by case examples, tasks and exercises where it is necessary to combine knowledge from the various elements. The aim is also to investigate how new technology (game-technology, use of IPad) can be used as efficient learning tools for the new electronic learning. * Learning by doing. The intention is that the learning activities should be integrated in the daily work-on board, using the ship and crew as a dynamic learning arena. This principle is an important part of the design of the new type of electronic learning Observations of and participation in different operations on-board, combined with theoretical work and exercises will support the transformation from theory to practice. * Reflection groups. Discussions, dialogues and collective reflection are in general efficient learning activities. The intention is to develop a package and tools supporting collective discussions for different roles/groups among the crew.
